The Challenge

Bringing a university brand to life across campus requires more than producing individual graphics. Each space has a different purpose, audience, surface, and installation environment.

For the University of St. Thomas, projects ranged from large-scale residence hall and tunnel graphics to dining hall messaging, academic program branding, admissions graphics, COVID-era safety communications, elevator wraps, window graphics, food truck and trailer wraps, athletic signage, and high-impact student spaces. Each application needed to feel connected to the St. Thomas brand while serving the specific needs of its location.

The environments also varied significantly. Some graphics were installed in long corridors and connecting tunnels. Others were applied to curved walls, stairwells, high walls, elevators, glass, floors, vehicles, trailers, exterior signage structures, and high-traffic interior spaces. The Tommie East Residence Hall tunnel was especially complex, requiring detailed planning and templating across a long distance with hallways that ran downhill. Accurate measurements were needed not just for height and length, but also for drop, ceiling variation, surface transitions, railings, doorways, utilities, and architectural interruptions.

The broader challenge was to make every application feel purposeful, durable, and integrated into the campus experience — whether it was helping students navigate a building, reinforcing school pride, communicating safety reminders, supporting sustainability messaging, promoting academic programs, or creating a more inspiring place to gather, study, dine, and connect.

The Pixelwerx Approach

Pixelwerx approached the University of St. Thomas work as an ongoing campus graphics program, adapting materials, production methods, and installation planning to the needs of each space.

For large wall and corridor graphics, our team prepared production-ready files, printed durable vinyl graphics, and managed installation across long wall runs, curved surfaces, stairways, tunnels, high walls, and high-visibility common areas. Careful templating helped ensure graphics aligned correctly with architectural conditions, railings, doorways, utilities, ceiling heights, directional signage, and changing wall elevations.

Across campus, Pixelwerx produced graphics for a wide range of applications. Residence hall and student-life graphics helped energize shared spaces. Academic and departmental graphics supported schools and programs including education, engineering, admissions, faith, and sustainability. Dining hall graphics reinforced campus values around sustainability, wellness, and community. Athletic signage celebrated school accomplishments. Food truck and trailer wraps extended the St. Thomas brand beyond interior spaces and into daily campus life.

During the COVID period, Pixelwerx also supported campus safety communication through window graphics, elevator wraps, floor markers, posters, and signage designed to encourage social distancing, masking, hygiene, and shared responsibility. These graphics needed to be highly visible, easy to understand, and durable enough for busy student and staff environments.

By managing production, finishing, and installation details with consistency, Pixelwerx helped St. Thomas carry its visual identity across many different environments without treating each project as a disconnected one-off.

The Result

The completed work helped transform everyday campus spaces into branded environments that support the University of St. Thomas experience.

Long hallways and tunnels became more engaging, more welcoming, and easier to navigate. Dining areas, residence halls, and student spaces gained visual energy and purpose. Academic buildings and department areas were reinforced with program-specific identity. Safety messages became more visible and better integrated into the campus environment. Campus vehicles, trailers, food trucks, and athletic signage extended the university’s presence outdoors and across the community.

Together, these projects show how environmental graphics can do more than decorate a space. They can communicate values, support safety, guide behavior, build school pride, celebrate achievement, and create a stronger sense of place across an active university campus.

From motivational wall graphics and campus storytelling to safety signage, elevator graphics, vehicle wraps, dining hall graphics, athletic signage, and large-scale branded environments, the work helped St. Thomas connect its identity to the spaces students, faculty, staff, alumni, and visitors experience every day.

Why It Worked

This work succeeded because Pixelwerx was able to support the University of St. Thomas across a wide range of applications, environments, and timelines.

Each project required a thoughtful combination of material selection, production accuracy, finishing, and installation planning. A long sloped tunnel required a different approach than an elevator wrap. A food truck or trailer wrap required a different process than a dining hall mural. Exterior athletic signage had different needs than interior student-life graphics. COVID-era safety graphics needed to be clear, fast, and functional, while academic, dining, residence hall, and admissions spaces needed to feel energetic, branded, and built into the environment.

By adapting to the conditions of each space while maintaining consistency across the larger campus brand, Pixelwerx helped St. Thomas create graphics that were purposeful, durable, and connected to the people who use the campus every day.

The result was an ongoing visual graphics program that brought the St. Thomas brand to life across campus — from large-scale environmental moments to practical everyday communications.
